"Blooming in the Carolinas!"
As part of our 10th Anniversary Celebration this year, the Carolina Shop Hop commissioned our very own batik pattern to be printed by Island Batiks. This gorgeous print features the rare "Oconee Bell" flower (also known
as Shortia), in six different colorways.
The Oconee Bell is found in the wild only in Upstate South Carolina and parts of Western North Carolina. Like the flower itself, the "Oconee Bell" batik is rare; it can only be found in the shops participating in the 2010 Carolina Shop Hop.
To read more about how the Oconee Bell was first discovered in the late 1700's, searched for by famous botanists for almost 100 years, and found again, click here for an article entitled,"The Rarest Wildflower" by
Jennifer Frick, an area naturalist.
